Will’s Odyssey
About Will
Will’s love for nature started at a very young age, watching wildlife documentaries featuring icons like Steve Irwin, David Attenborough, Ben Fogle, and Jonathan Scott before he could even walk or talk. In 2018, after representing Great Britain in roller hockey, Will moved to San Diego, USA, to pursue studies in Environmental Science while continuing to play hockey. Unfortunately, frequent injuries left him with more time off the rink, and a budding passion for wildlife conservation took center stage.
While volunteering at the San Diego Zoo & Safari Park, Will had the chance to work on conservation projects, both behind the scenes and within the park. During this time, a Christmas gift of a camera sparked his journey into wildlife photography, turning every spare moment into an opportunity to capture the beauty of the natural world.
The global pandemic brought Will back to the UK, where he focused on his studies while maintaining an annual pilgrimage to Skomer Island to photograph puffins. However, a renewed dedication to wildlife photography emerged in January 2024, leading to countless trips across the UK, from Yorkshire to Wales and Scotland. Highlights included capturing barn and short-eared owls, puffins, razorbills, otters, and the unforgettable sight of wild beavers in Devon. He also documented a variety of other species, from red grouse and kingfishers to kestrels and deer.
In September 2024, Will’s dream of an African safari came true with two weeks of volunteering with Wildlife ACT at Manyoni Private Game Reserve in South Africa. There, he monitored lions, cheetahs, and elephants and marveled at the sight of rhinos, hornbills, vultures, jackals, and hyenas in the wild.
For Will, wildlife photography is an ever-evolving journey of learning and growth. Constantly refining techniques to capture and print images that resonate, he aims to tell stories that bring people closer to the natural world. With 2025 set to be a year of exploration and learning, He will begin in Costa Rica, working with a volunteer organization to protect sea turtles and capture the region’s vibrant wildlife. The journey will continue with a safari guide course in Africa, deepening his knowledge of African wildlife to enrich both his photographs and the stories they tell.
Will is proud to be part of the PermaJet Ambassador program, where he can share his dedication to capturing and preserving the beauty of nature through stunning prints.
Will loves using PermaJet’s Matt Plus 240 paper because it beautifully showcases his wildlife photography without the distractions of glare, allowing each detail to come to life in vibrant color. The smooth matte finish makes it ideal for capturing the essence of the natural world, from the intricate patterns of feathers to the subtle hues of landscapes. Alongside this, Will is also drawn to PermaJet’s postcards. Creating smaller, high-quality prints offers him a special way to share these moments with family and friends, sending a piece of his adventures and the beauty he’s witnessed directly to loved ones.
